LTTE PRABHAKARANS DEATH

Yes.....i have been telling my friends all along that the wound on prabhakar's forehead is a long range heavy bore sniper's shot. The bullet had exited from the back skull blowing a part of it away.He was most probably taken out by the sniper whithout him knowing the victims real identity. Maybe it was dawn and dark or it was raining that night so visual identification was difficult.Snipers are usually taught to shoot on the head first to disable and disorient the target and then go for body shot,,, to finish the job.For confidential reasons the SLA is not highlighting the snipers role or identity clearly to save him and his family from any revenge attack by the hidden LTTE remnants. The startled look on his face in the final moment is a sign that death was sudden.A captured and tortured person shot from point blank or very close range will not have this look. Most Probably when they were making the final escape from the no-fire zone in a small teamwith light weapons only they were ambushed. I Think that the SLA were prepared that Prabhakaran & co will try to escape in a final bid from the evershrinking no-fire zone in a small group... so thay had an advance sniper teams ready. As the snipers have long range rifles and are hidden or one can say blended with the local landscape and are trained to stay still for along time plus are away from clear shooting range of enemies ...they have an advantage of the first shot. The SLA says that Prabhakaran was found with four of his bodyguards bodies near him which means that there were no survivors to burn his body as he had always wished after his death....they all were cut down one after another. The Ambulance attack with burnt bodies and firing story could be a smoke screen by the LTTE to allow Prabhakaran to escape quickly. Knowing that all wirless communication are monitered in war zone as in peacetime and there is no secured frequency the LTTE Threw a final gamble to allow thier leader to escape and maybe the SLA were taken in by the story for some time that is why there was initial confusion and conflicting news on 17-18 MAY.After his body was found near the lagoon/beach all other unsure news came to rest.Because it was raining that night and the temparature was cool the body did not detoriate badly and had a fresh look about it.My theory is that his family may have been captured alive and could be at some secret location undergoing interrogation to extract maximum information or were also killed and the bodies burned/buried to destroy all proofs.[Ultimately they will be under disappeared list soon].Of course i am saying this discounting all the conspiracy theory going around that it was his body double or a fake body or was he was captured earlier and killed later etc etc. I only say as i saw on TV etc. I have no privy to information that the SLA or RAW may have about this which may come out later or may never come out.Thats all for now...

Cold Calling

Cold Calling - It Can Make or Break Your Sales Success
How to cold call. Cold calling is slowly becoming a lost art. However, it is still one of the most powerful tools that a sales and marketing organization can enlist. For starters, a lot less companies untilze cold calling these days. That makes the game much easier for the the ones who do and whole lot easier for those who do it well.
Here are some rules for cold calling that you must follow.1.) Know who you are calling There is nothing worse than not knowing who you are calling, asking for the wrong person, or pronouncing their name improperly. There is no excuse for this. If you can't get this simple step right, you are in the wrong profession. There are two easy techniques to help make sure you get this step right. First, try looking on the website of the company you are calling. (If your cold calling on consumers, this is much more difficult. I'll get into that a little later.) Many websites list the employees' contact information. (This is a gift to all you sales people. Use it.) The second technique is to place a pre call prior to attempting to reach your target on the phone. I call this step doing your homework. You simply call your target company and introduce yourself to the person who answers the phone, honestly tell them that you are hoping just to get the name of the person in charge of whatever it is you are trying to sell. While you are at it, ask for the spelling, their proper title, proper pronunciation, If they like to be called any other name or a shorter version of their name (Is that Jagdish or Jaggu ? - Shivu or Shiva?) and even their mailing address. (It is not always headquarters.) WRITE THIS DOWN! Also write down the name of the person you spoke with, the date and your next step. (We'll get more into this later as well.) With this information, you are much better prepared to make a successful cold call. Now your starting to learn how to cold call.
2.) Know why you are calling You must start with a clear objective. What are you looking to accomplish with this call? Are you looking to make a sale with one phone call? I doubt it. So know what you want and stick to the plan. Some smart objectives for cold calling are to schedule a meeting or an appointment, to provide a proposal, to have your name added to an approved vendor list, to sign the person up for a trial, and many more depending on what you sell and your normal sales cycle. Having the person agree that you can send them your brochures is not a good goal. In many cases it can be counter productive. There is a time and a place where that can work, but only when the person you are sending it to has asked the right questions, has told you a little bit about their organization and their needs, and truly requires the information before they can commit to the next step in the sales process. The problem with sending brochures as an objective is that it is too easy. It is easy because there is no commitment requires or obligation to say yes to can I send you my brochures. Most people will say yes just to get you off of the phone. That is not how to cold call for profit. This will not help you achieve your sales goals. Not to mention this can be an expensive technique when you take printing costs and postage into consideration. Now set some real goals for your cold calling and stick to them.
3) Confidence is King! Cold calling for sales can really play on your confidence. If you are confident, you will be successful. That is not to say that confidence is all it takes. Knowing how to cold call is not going to help unless you already know how to sell your product or service. If you are not good at selling in general, how could you expect to be good at cold calling? If this is the case, forget about how to cold call for now and start with how to sell. If you know how to sell, you must master the art of how to cold call. The more experience you have, the better you will perform. The only way to gain experience is by hitting the phone. It takes a very strong personality to get through enough calls to gain that experience, but without paying your dues, you will not succeed. Only after you have enough experience and confidence, will you understand the power of cold calling for sales.
It's a Numbers Game Any self-proclaimed sales Guru who tries to say that cold calling is not a numbers game is just trying to say something different or controversial. It is a numbers game and I can prove it. First of all I have the hands-on experience in cold calling equal 10 experienced cold callers and I know my business inside and out, but if I started making cold calls right now, it would take approximately ten cold calls to get one appointment. It may happen on the first call, but the averages prove that I would not get a second appointment for at least ten more calls or up to twenty. I urge you to try this and answer the question for yourself once and for all.
First of all be prepared. Know who you are calling, get their name right please and know what your goal is for the call. In my business it is an appointment, but yours may be different. Once you are prepared hit the phones. Don't forget to properly introduce yourself, make a promise or a claim that can add value to the person you are calling and ask the qualifying question to achieve your goal for the call. Do this one hundred times and record the results. Due to voice mails and gatekeepers this one hundred cold call experiment may take days or weeks, but when you finally finish, you will understand the numbers for cold calling for your sales.
Once you know the numbers, you can properly plan your sales and forecast your potential. If every ten cold calls leads to one appointment and every three appointments leads to one sale, then you will need to make 30 cold calls to make one sale. Now you need to discover how many cold calls you are capable of doing in an hour, a day, a week and a month. Then divide those numbers by the 30 needed to make a sale (or whatever your numbers may be) and you will have a very accurate assessment of how much you can sell over any given period of time through cold calling. Once you know this, the only thing that can stop you from achieving all of your sales goals is laziness.
Does the math make sense? Just because you complete the experiment and know your numbers that does not mean that they can't change. As you gain experience, you will be able to improve your numbers, but only to a certain extent. It is a numbers game after all.
Is it worth the effort? Only you can answer that question. There are a lot of other great strategies finding leads and making sales. You may find that it takes you 8 hours to make 30 cold calls and that one sale a day is not going to get you to where you need to be, in this case you may want to avoid cold calls and look for qualified leads through either referrals, advertising, networking, event marketing or any other sales strategy as your main strategy. However, if you are not at a tradeshow or networking event and your advertising is not making the phone ring and you do not have any fresh referrals, you better be on that phone making cold calls to fill the down times. Michael Jordan was quoted as saying "If you do the work, you'll get the reward." This is true not only in sports, but also to be successful at sales.
Now go do your work and make your cold calls Good Luck.

Real End

This present war will drag on like this till 13 may when the election in India will be over.... as Tamil Nadu will be in the last phase and will go to polls on that day.
So news of a high civilian casualty/Bloodbath or Prabhakaran's death etc will polarize the voter against DMK -Congress Party vote. So the Lankan army will sit it out till then....ie No large scale attack. The Congress Party is already under pressure. It does not want to reduce it seats in the Parliament. Each single seat counts at this stage. It is maybe moving towards a hung Parliament as voting percentage has been less due to a Strong heat wave blowing across INDIA [ upto 48 Degree].
At the same time Congress will also kept the door little open in case M/S Jayalalita wins strongly and it may need her support to form a government at New Delhi.I think the the 2 Envoys from India who went to Sri Lanka recently [ 26-27 April] did not achieve much. It was more to cool tempers in Tamil Nadu. India in 2009 do not much leverage over Sri Lanka like before. It is just watching the situation as it unfolds in the war theatre. It does not want refugees to land in India. At the same time it cannot arm twist Sri Lanka. Its not the only power there. It is afraid of other powers gaining influence in Sri Lanka that is why it is not taking a very strong stand.
I Think that after May 13 the Lankan army will go for full thrust attack...Whithout caring for Civilian refugees.....if the LTTE Defences have not collasped by it self before this date.Till then the Lankan army will keep up the pressure on LTTE. It will make a thousand cut on the Civilian & LTTE .ie slow bleed to death. Like continious mortar/Shell attacks.I also suspect that since LTTE top people have nothing to loose except thier life..they may during any final battle try to get the maximum number of thier civilians killed so as to Create a Genocide publicity....for the world to see...to continue thier struggle by a new group for the new generation .i.e become martyrs.
What is the best & lasting solution now.....After hearing from all side...Tamils & Singhalese alike.[ I am neither....i come from North india.. Presently working in Middle East]. I think the only way out from the present mess is to Change the constitution of Sri Lanka from its present Unitary system. The best chance for both is equal right for Tamil language and culture. All discriminations should be removed and the Tamil Diaspora should Frankly say that if our rights are taken care off we will not Demand a seperate EALAM.
I think the Singhalese extremist should accept Tamil rights and they should not be afraid as they have demography on thier side. They should not believe that tamils will dominate them.If this is done quickly in the next 2 years then peace will be everlasting.
This is my view ..if you all think that i am naive then what can i do ...i am not an expert in Sri Lanka....Best of Luck to All....

End Game for LTTE

End Game for LTTE...
I think the turning point for Sri Lankan Tamils....struggle for self determiniation came with the Assasination of Rajiv Gandhi by the LTTE. This was theirs single biggest mistake. They annoyed and lost a strong friend in India. The Indian establisment then determined not to help them in any matters. One should know that security decisions in India are made in New Delhi and not Chennai. THe LTTE top ranks showed utter contempt for India. They relied more on the Tamil Diaspora in Canada ,UK ,Europe, Malaysia etc and elsewhere for funds... combined with their other legal and illegal Businesses to run the war machine. They had a very low opinion about the Sri Lanka Military as they had defeated them in many battles with their dedicated fighters in the last 25 years. This made them think themselves as invincible. A strong LTTE Military was arrogant which elimnated all its moderate rivals one by one in these last 20 years.Any one who were willing to adjust with Colombo government for Tamil autonomy was dead man walking. They did not care about world opinion. Nothing short of a "Tamil Eealam" was acceptable to them. It almost looked as it was LTTE'S fiefdom. The Top LTTE arrogance was so much that they ran thier area like Warlords. They had all thiers sympathizers/agents in Police, Judiciary,University, media etc. If one went against them in any way ...it was all over for them. All sorts of people disappeared in Eaalam areas.
Another turning point came to them after 9/11 attack. It changed the world in the way as we look at it. The world has now become less tolerant to ruthless armed struggle how ever legitimate cause it may be. People want to talk & negotiate with decent people.
The Sri lankan Establishment quickly gauged the changing world mood and quickly established its legitamacy every where and put forward its point of view with great success and pushed to have the LTTE banned. Also Col.Karuna moved away from the LTTE who weakened its Cadre base from the east. He did provided a lot of input and intelligence about LTTE working, heirachy, agents etc.
All the sucide bombing carried out the LTTE in Colombo and other places in Sri lanka gave them a very bad name. They targeted the Military Personals/Assets....but it was the civilian gatherings targets which gave them negative publicity and hardened world opinion against them. The LTTE thought that they could go on forever like this. All the ceasefire was just a chance for them to further consolidate & build their arsenal.
It was then decided by the long suffering Sri Lanka Military establishment to bring thier force upto power and uplift the moral of SLA soldiers which had long suffered desertion and complains about ineffective firepower, salary ,command control issues.Once they had rectified these a resurgent SLA took help from Pakistan for attack strategy training and purchased new technology arms from Isreal, China. India possibily helped SLA who could not see Foreign interference in its own back yard.India's Strategy is to see LTTE damaged but not decimated which is happening now. Though India can do little to help the Tamils now.
Now the SrI Lanka Gov will have to decide how to to go about peace post-LTTE.It will take a long time for this to happen and till then it will best for the Sinhala Community to decide if tamils are equal citizen or not and the Tamil Diaspora to decide if a new leadership wants a Ealaam and Armed struggle again or integration in Sri Lanka ......This is not the end of the Road....Best of a Luck to all....Atif
